Adobe Video Workshop: Adobe Teaches You Adobe
January 17, 2008

This is an excellent (and free!) learning resource for eLearning developers who use Adobe products. Which should be most of us.
Personally, I’ve been trying to move my design workflow to apps from small Mac developers (Pixelmator instead of Photoshop, Intaglio instead of Illustrator, etc.) for many reasons (cost being a big one, my love for the underdog being another), but functionally Adobe will likely rule supreme for the foreseeable future.
I believe this is the next big wave for eLearning – companies teaching their customers how to use their products and increasing their sales as a result (while decreasing support costs and increasing customer satisfaction).
eLearning is a win for everyone!
Note: oddly, the Adobe Video Workshop doesn’t seem to like Firefox for Mac, but it works in Safari just fine.

Hi Chris,
I’m an instructional designer making the transition to becoming an eLearning developer as well. Your post on the Adobe video workshop interested me especially since I’m fresh from attending their Articulate webinar. I’m thrilled that there are tools out there that make it easy for someone like me with no programming experience to create interaction rich eLearning content. However, they told me that their product wouldn’t work on my Mac – even if I have Powerpoint for Mac.
Any ideas of other products I might check out that wouldn’t need me to have a separate PC for my development projects?

Sadly, though the Mac has a great variety of media applications, there aren’t many eLearning development tools available for Mac (yet). If you have an Intel-based Mac, you can do what I do. Run Windows on your Mac side-by-side with your Mac applications using VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop. That gives you the best of both worlds in a single box.
I expect to see some Mac-native eLearning development applications as the Mac market continues to grow. TechSmith are already working on their apps.
